Job Title: Pit Geologist

Pit Geologist required for mining company in Marampa, Sierra Leone.

​

Role purpose

The Pit Geologist is in charge of all Geological filed work and information needed in the mine. These includes Diamond drilling (DD), Reverse circulation drilling (RC), Blast hole drilling (BH), pitting, trenching, sample submission to the laboratory, stockpile management, ore spotting and dispatch   Sample. The position manages the team of Geology samplers and Technicians as well.

Accountabilities

 

Safety Management:

  • Ensure HSE requirements are communicated prior to work commencement, creating a mindset environment and culture of Zero Tolerance through health and safety communications and leadership.

  • Provide daily job risk analysis.

  • Provide information, signs, barriers and other materials to warn of potential safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.

  • Assist in the investigation of accidents, compile and submit accident reports

 

Quality Control

  • Ensuring that sampling standard procedures and protocols are strictly adhered.

  • QA/QC checks on drilling, sampling and recovery.

  • Assist in minimising ore loss and dilution during mining and excavation.

 

Reporting

  • Daily, weekly and monthly report on pit mapping information.

  • Liaise with Load and Haul on a daily basis to ensure minimal ore loss and dilution and report daily ore mined

  • Daily report on GC drilling meters,  samples and assay sent and received from Lab

 

 Database Management

  • Managing and keeping daily record of load and haul figures and ROM pad feed

 

​KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

 

Education

  • Must have Tertiary certificate (Degree/Diploma) in Geology from a recognised university.      

 

Skills (Key technical skills required):

  • Practical knowledge of Microsoft Office software and any 3D modelling software (preferably Surpac).

  • Drill rig supervision, geological logging, In-pit geological mapping and ore spotting experience.

  • Must possessed a valid Sierra Leone’s driving license

 

Experience:

  • Must have very good supervisory skills and have worked in an Iron mining industry for a minimum of 3 years.

 

Medical:

  • Must be medically and mentally fit and be able to meet and maintain Company Medical Standards.
