ABOUT BEAM AND THE ROLE

​

Beam, a growing and dynamic enterprise under The Elba Group, is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Head of Business Development to lead growth across its diverse business areas. This role is ideal for a confident leader who enjoys building, creating, and delivering results.

​

The Head of Business Development will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to grow Beam’s business units, strengthen partnerships, expand markets, and increase revenue. The role requires a hands-on leader who is a creative and critical thinker, problem solver, and confident communicator

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy & Growth

​

  • Develop and implement comprehensive business development strategies aligned with Beam’s vision and growth targets.

  • Identify new markets, customer segments, partnerships, and revenue streams across all business units.

  • Drive market entry and expansion strategies for Beam’s retail, manufacturing, and real estate offerings.

  • Conduct market research, competitor analysis, and trend monitoring to inform decision-making.

 

Sales, Partnerships & Revenue

 

  • Lead business development initiatives, including B2B, B2C, corporate, diaspora, and institutional partnerships.

  • Develop proposals, pitch decks, and partnership agreements.

  • Negotiate and manage strategic alliances, distributors, suppliers, and key clients.

  • Support pricing strategies and sales planning to optimise profitability.

 

Brand, Marketing & Communication

​

  • Work closely with marketing teams to strengthen Beam’s brand positioning and visibility.

  • Oversee and contribute to marketing content, campaigns, and promotional activities across digital and physical platforms.

  • Support social media marketing, product launches, exhibitions, pop-ups, and events.

  • Ensure consistent messaging across all Beam business units.

Team Leadership & Coordination

  • Supervise and mentor Business Development Assistants and related support staff.

  • Set clear targets, work plans, and performance indicators for the team.

  • Coordinate cross-functional collaboration with operations, production, finance, and real estate teams.

Product & Business Unit Support

  • Support product development initiatives, from concept to market readiness.

  • Contribute to the development of Made-in-Sierra-Leone product lines and gift basket offerings.

  • Support feasibility, marketing, and leasing strategies for Beam’s real estate projects.

Reporting & Performance Monitoring

​

  • Prepare regular business development reports, forecasts, and performance updates for management.

  • Track KPIs, sales performance, partnership outcomes, and return on investment.

  • Recommend continuous improvements based on performance data and market feedback.

 

COMPETENCIES

​

  • Ability to develop, independently lead and contribute significantly to revenue growth initiatives

  • Ability to articulate business development strategies they designed, and adjust to suit different products, customer segments and operating environments

  • Understanding of sales cycles, market entry, customer acquisition, retail pricing, merchandising, distribution, and customer experience

  • Understanding of local consumer preferences, pricing sensitivities, and buying behaviour

  • Familiarity with entrepreneurship in Sierra Leone, including its challenges, opportunities and stakeholders

  • Access to a large local and diaspora network

  • Experience with retail brands, locally manufactured products, or real estate projects is an advantage

  • Strong ability to build partnerships and drive growth initiatives

  • Ability to seek and use relevant information

  • Quickly understands new information

 

Reporting & Performance Monitoring

  • Ability to create basic graphics (e.g. Canva or similar tools)

  • Experience with social media marketing and digital promotion

  • Familiarity with AI or digital tools for marketing and business development
