Job Description


Our client, a mining company based in the north of Sierra Leone is seeking a Financial Controller. 



Role Purpose

  • Experienced Financial controller with prior experience of working in Africa - the role will effectively be the Number 2 position within the Finance function and we need an experienced Financial Controller who has worked in Africa to support the CFO.

  • Experience of a well-run corporate v’s a start-up type operation - Tonkolili will quickly become a fairly routine business as opposed to a start-up operation.

  • Experience of working for a large, well run corporate with standards, processes and procedures (i.e. someone who knows what "good practices" looks like) as opposed to someone who has worked for start-up operations.

  • To provide Commercial Support. Compliance to corporate and IFRS reporting and internal control procedures

  • To compile and review on a regular basis, reports that demonstrate the current position and performance of the company in respect to financial, statutory and internal performance measures.

  • To manage and train personnel within the department and within the wider company generally.


Authority and scope of role


Financial Authority limited to travel, petty cash transactions and authorisation for fuel, food and accommodation and staff travel expenses.


Knowledge, skills & experience

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business

  • Advanced user of MS Office

  • Demonstrable high level of exposure and utilisation of medium and large scale accounting packages. Experience in a SAP implementation would be an advantage

  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role within the mining or Oil & Gas industry

  • Experience in Bulk Shipping

  • Experience in managing finance team.

  • Should be a leader and a team builder with well-developed written and oral communication skills.
