Job Title: Civil Supervisor

JOB PURPOSE
​
To supervise and execute all civil works on site—including earthworks, reinforcement, formwork, and concrete works—ensuring construction is carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and project timelines.
​
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
​
1. Earthworks & Site Preparation
-
Supervise excavation, trenching, and grading activities in accordance with approved drawings and site levels.
-
Monitor soil moisture content and compaction to achieve specified Maximum Dry Density (MDD) and Optimum Moisture Content (OMC).
-
Oversee backfilling operations, ensuring layer-wise placement and compaction.
-
Coordinate and record field density tests and report results to the Lead – Civil.
-
Ensure safe excavation practices and proper site housekeeping.
2. Reinforcement Works
-
Verify rebar cutting, bending, and placement in accordance with approved drawings and Bar Bending Schedules (BBS).
-
Check bar spacing, laps, anchorage lengths, cover blocks, chairs, and tying methods.
-
Ensure reinforcement is clean, correctly positioned, and securely fixed prior to concreting.
-
Identify and correct reinforcement non-conformities before inspection and concrete placement.
3. Formwork / Shuttering
-
Inspect formwork and shuttering for alignment, line, level, plumb, and stability before concrete pours.
-
Ensure formwork is properly supported and safe for concreting operations.
-
Coordinate formwork oiling, stripping, cleaning, and reuse in line with project requirements.

Monitor stripping times based on concrete grade and site conditions.
4. Concrete Works
-
Supervise concrete batching, transportation, pouring, and compaction using needle or boom vibrators.
-
Verify concrete grade, slump values, cube sampling, and curing arrangements.
-
Monitor pour sequencing to prevent cold joints, segregation, or honeycombing.
-
Ensure proper finishing of concrete surfaces in line with specifications.
-
Maintain concrete pour records and daily site logs.
5. Quality Control
-
Conduct routine inspections to ensure works comply with drawings, specifications, and method statements.

Assist in pre-pour, during-pour, and post-pour inspections.
-
Identify defects, raise issues promptly, and support corrective actions.
-
Maintain site quality records, checklists, and registers.
6. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
-
Enforce site safety rules and ensure all workers use appropriate PPE.
-
Identify and report unsafe conditions or practices.
-
Ensure safe handling of materials, tools, and equipment.
-
Promote a clean, orderly, and safe working environment.
7. Site Supervision & Coordination
-
Supervise artisans, labourers, and subcontractors to ensure productivity and workmanship.
-
Allocate daily tasks and monitor progress against the work plan.
-
Coordinate activities with surveyors, QA/QC, safety officers, and other site teams.

Report daily progress, challenges, and material requirements
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

Diploma or Certificate in Civil Engineering, Construction, or a related field.
-
Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in civil construction site supervision.
-
Proven hands-on experience in earthworks, reinforcement, formwork, and concrete works.
-
Strong ability to read and interpret civil drawings and specifications.
-
Practical knowledge of MDD/OMC, BBS, formwork systems, and concrete practices.
-
Basic understanding of quality control procedures and site documentation.
-
Good communication and team supervision skills.
-
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
-
Responsible, disciplined, and safety-conscious.
-
Physically fit for site-based work.
-
Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
-
Willingness to learn and follow guidance.

WORKING CONDITIONS
-
Site-based role with extended outdoor work.
-
May require work beyond normal hours depending on project needs.
