Mental Health Awareness week is from 8th to 14th May 2017. The theme this year is 'surviving or thriving'.
Conversations about anxiety, stress and depression in Sierra Leone have increased, but we are still a society that shuns away from therapy and talking about our problems. Instead, we focus on other people's lives, drink heavily and joke.
Following a research done by a team from the University of York, Research Fellow Meredith Newlin was quoted as saying "an estimated 13 per cent of the population of Sierra Leone suffer from a mental health condition....."
According to World Health Organisation (WHO), Sierra Leone only has two psychiatrists, two Clinical Psychologists and 19 Mental Health Nurses for a population of approximately 7,000,000 people.
If you work in Sierra Leone, we are asking you to help us assess wellbeing at your workplace, so that we can work with employers to design suitable programs. Please click on the link below to complete a short survey (10 multiple choice questions) by 14th May 2017.
