OVERVIEW:

 

MEER (Mirrors for Earth's Energy Rebalancing) is seeking a highly skilledrepresentative in Freetown who can effectively represent and advocate for MEER. Theorganization has a team of around nine professionals based in Freetown currentlyworking on existing and new projects. The group is led by Dr. Ye Tao, the founder ofMEER, and has already completed an initial 800 m2 project in Kroo Bay, Freetown. Currently, they are planning a new 10,000 m2 project in Freetown, the exact locationof which is yet to be disclosed. According to the initial data, MEER's mirrors canreduce interior heat by 5-7 degrees Celsius, which is a significant reduction and canpositively impact human health and well-being.
The representative will collaborate with the Freetown team, Dr. Ye Tao and Mr. PeterDynes, to comprehend and participate in planning the projects for MEER in Freetown.Their primary responsibility is to ensure effective communication with the localgovernment, regulators, the community, and the local media (if applicable). Therepresentative should understand and advocate for requests as needed with thegovernment and also convey government requests to MEER. Additionally, they willstrive to establish positive relationships with the local communities by explaining thebenefits of MEER and its current status.
We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate to help us develop solutions for theclimate crisis. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience incommunications and/or management and the ability to work effectively with teamsboth in person and remotely.
This is a full-time position with potential for promotion as both the candidate and MEER grow together.

ROLE OBJECTIVES:

 

  • Collaborate with the core leadership team (mainly reporting to Dr. Tao and Peter Dynes) to gain a deep understanding of MEER's projects and government requirements.

  • Stay informed of government rulings (legislative, judicial, executive, and regulatory) that may impact MEER, and communicate these findings.

  • Collaborate directly with the local and national government, including the Chief Heat Officer's office, the Freetown Mayor's office, local regulators, and other branches.

  • Work with the communities to explain MEER and relate feedback from the community to MEER.

  • Work with the local project team to understand the project, provide feedback, and work to further MEER.

  • As needed, interact with local and other media (traditional and social) advocating MEER.

  • Build brand awareness and positioning.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Organize and attend meetings with the leadership team

  • Report on progress and status of various leads and work

  • Establish and maintain relationships with government officials, staff, and other key policymakers

  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments relevant to the organization's mission

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local lobbying and advocacy laws

  • Be attentive and actively learn about MEER and climate system mitigation

  • Develop communication strategies and conduct media outreach to engage with potentialjournalists.

  • Attend weekly one-hour teamwide meetings when required

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Successful track record ideally at an environmental Non-Profit Organization, educationalorganization, and/or company

  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, written and oral communication, and decision-making skills

  • Attention to detail

  • Patience and ability to work with teams both in Freetown and overseas

  • Fluency in English
